PAIA & POPIA access guide
ASK. ACCESS. CORRECT.
South African law gives people routes to request personal information and, in qualifying cases, access to other records. This page explains how to start.
Last updated · 19 August 2026Records we hold
Depending on our activities, record categories may include candidate and recruitment records; employer staffing enquiries; partner and impact-programme enquiries; contracts and supplier records; finance and statutory records; policies and governance records; website submissions; and operational correspondence.
Your own personal information
Under POPIA you may ask whether WeBecome holds your personal information and request access, correction or deletion where the law permits. This route is usually the simplest when the record is about you.
Other records under PAIA
A request for another record may need to show the right you seek to exercise or protect and why the record is required. Access can be refused where a lawful PAIA ground applies, including protection of another person’s privacy, confidential commercial information, safety or legally privileged material.
How to make a request
Use the WeBecome request form and choose “Access to my information” or “PAIA / other information request”. Describe the record clearly, provide a preferred response method and avoid submitting unnecessary sensitive information. We may request proof of identity or authority before releasing a record.
Timing and fees
We will acknowledge the request and handle it within the periods required by applicable law. A prescribed PAIA request or reproduction fee may apply where legally permitted. We will explain any fee before processing it. Privacy-rights assistance is provided without charge.
Official guidance
The Information Regulator publishes the official PAIA guide, prescribed forms and complaint routes. Visit the Information Regulator’s PAIA page for the current material, or submit a complaint if a request is not handled lawfully.
