POPIA privacy notice

YOUR INFORMATION. TREATED WITH CARE.

This notice explains what WeBecome collects, why we need it, who may receive it and the choices you have. It applies to job seekers, employer contacts, partners and website visitors.

Last updated · 19 August 2026
The short version

We use your information to respond, assess, recruit, match and deliver our services. We do not sell personal information. Job seekers never pay WeBecome for placement.

01

Who is responsible

WeBecome is the responsible party for personal information collected through this website and through our recruitment, staffing and employment-impact activities. Privacy and access requests are securely routed to the authorised owner team for handling.

02

Information we collect

Depending on how you engage with us, this may include your name, contact details, location, work preferences, availability, transport access, experience, CV and application history. Employer and partner enquiries may include organisation details, role requirements, staffing needs, funding interests and contact preferences.

At later recruitment stages, and only when appropriate, we may ask for identity, eligibility-to-work, qualification, reference or screening information. Please do not upload identity documents, banking details, passwords, PINs or unrelated confidential information through the initial application form.

03

Why we process it

We process information to receive and assess applications; match candidates to genuine requirements; communicate about possible opportunities; verify information at the appropriate stage; respond to employers and partners; plan and deliver staffing or impact programmes; keep operational records; prevent fraud; protect our systems; and meet legal obligations.

We use information only where there is a lawful and reasonable basis under POPIA, including your consent, steps requested before a contract, performance of an agreement, legal duties and legitimate operational interests that do not unfairly override your rights.

04

Who may receive it

Access is limited to authorised WeBecome personnel and service providers who need the information for a stated purpose. Relevant candidate information may be shared with a prospective employer or programme partner when there is a suitable opportunity and appropriate safeguards are in place. We may also disclose information where the law requires it or to protect people, rights and systems.

We do not sell or rent personal information. Where a service provider processes information outside South Africa, we require safeguards consistent with POPIA.

05

How long we keep it

We retain information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for recruitment, service delivery, record keeping, dispute handling or a legal requirement. Candidate profiles are reviewed periodically and may be removed when they are no longer useful or lawful to retain. You may ask us to delete information, subject to records we must lawfully keep.

06

Security and decisions

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, controlled access and secure storage appropriate to the information we hold. No online system can promise absolute security. If a material security compromise affects you, we will act and notify affected people and the Information Regulator where required.

WeBecome does not make final employment decisions solely through automated processing. Employers make their own hiring decisions.

07

Your rights

You may ask whether we hold your information; request access; correct inaccurate or outdated details; request deletion or destruction where lawful; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; or complain about how information is handled. We may need to verify your identity before acting and may lawfully refuse or limit a request where an exception applies.

Submit a privacy request or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

08

Children and changes

The work application is intended for people aged 18 or older. A person under 18 should not submit personal information without appropriate parent, guardian or legal authorisation. We may update this notice when our services or legal obligations change; the date at the top shows the current version.
